Growing up as a drummer in the church has been an incredible journey filled with unique experiences and blessings. This journey has taken me through many different worship teams, churches across Niagara, the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), and even to places abroad. Along the way, I've had the privilege of recording worship drum covers that have resonated with many, garnering over half a million views. These covers were created to help fellow church drummers learn the parts for their Sunday morning worship services. Here’s a look at my journey and how faith and rhythm have intertwined to create a fulfilling musical ministry.
My journey began like many musicians—in the church. The church environment is a nurturing ground for budding musicians. It was in this setting that I first picked up the drumsticks, feeling the pulse of the worship music and the energy of the congregation. The support and encouragement from the church community were instrumental in developing my skills and passion for drumming.
Being part of different worship teams has been a rich and rewarding experience. Each team brought its own style, challenges, and opportunities for growth. Playing for various churches across Niagara and the GTA, I learned to adapt to different musical styles and worship environments. This diversity not only broadened my musical abilities but also deepened my understanding of worship and its role in the church.
My journey didn’t stop at local churches. I had the incredible opportunity to play for churches abroad, experiencing worship in different cultural contexts. These experiences were eye-opening and humbling, showing me the universal language of music and worship. It was amazing to see how worship music could unite people from different backgrounds and create a shared spiritual experience.
One of the most exciting aspects of my journey has been recording worship drum covers. By God’s grace, these covers have accumulated over half a million views. The primary goal was to help church drummers learn the parts for their Sunday morning services. It’s been incredibly rewarding to know that these videos have been a valuable resource for drummers around the world, enhancing their worship services and helping them grow in their musical ministry.
Looking back, I see how faith and music have been deeply intertwined in my life. Playing drums in the church has been more than just a musical experience—it’s been a spiritual journey. Each beat, each rhythm, and each song has been an expression of worship and a testament to God’s grace and provision in my life.
To those who are just starting their journey as church musicians, I encourage you to embrace the opportunities that come your way. Whether you’re playing in a small local church or recording covers for a global audience, remember that your music has the power to touch lives and bring people closer to God. Keep practicing, stay humble, and let your passion for music and your faith guide you.
My journey as a church drummer has been a path of growth, learning, and spiritual enrichment. From playing in local churches to sharing my music with a global audience, I’ve seen firsthand the impact that worship music can have. I am grateful for every opportunity to serve and for the support of the church communities that have nurtured my musical and spiritual growth. As I continue this journey, I look forward to new experiences and to helping more musicians find their rhythm in worship.
